Harry Kane scored a late goal against Germany to earn England a 1-1 draw, and in doing so beat both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi to a prestigious record.

Kane’s goal from the penalty spot was his 50th in an England shirt, and he has managed that tally in just 71 games for the Three Lions. He has become the 72nd player to reach 50 goals for his national team, but the speed at which he has done so is truly remarkable.

Messi and Ronaldo both took over 100 matches to reach 50 goals for their country, as Kane has smashed their records. But the England captain has also beaten Neymar and Robert Lewandowski to the half-century.

Kane’s tally of 50 in 71 games is fewer than Neymar (74), Lewandowski (90), Messi (107) and Ronaldo (114), highlighting just how great the Tottenham forward has been for his country. Kane’s 50 goals match the combined total of the rest of his current England team-mates, as he continues to dominate on the international stage.

But Kane will be eyeing up another England record, and he could break it before the start of the Premier League season. Wayne Rooney will be wondering how long he will remain as England’s all-time record goal scorer, as Kane begins to close in on a new record.

Rooney managed 53 goals during his England career, but a hat-trick will see Kane match that tally, with so much still left to offer for his country. Kane could hang up his boots as the Premier League top scorer as well as the leading striker for England.

Harry Kane could become the Premier League’s record goal scorer at Tottenham

And his Premier League ambitions aren’t far off, as the Tottenham star currently sits on 183 goals. The record is currently held by Alan Shearer, who managed 260 goals in the Premier League, during spells at Blackburn and Newcastle.

Kane is just 77 goals away, which may seem like a lot, but at the rate he is going it could be reached within the next four seasons. That will largely depend on his future at Tottenham though, or whether he seeks a move elsewhere.

Last summer Kane was heavily linked with a move to Manchester City, which may have boosted his goal tally even more. But City have since signed Erling Haaland, allowing Tottenham to breathe a sigh of relief as another summer raid is off the cards.

That doesn’t mean that Kane’s future is guaranteed to be at Tottenham, but it’s increasingly likely, especially since Antonio Conte has given the club a much needed lift. Kane will be in the Champions League where he belongs next season, and Conte isn’t messing about in the summer transfer window either.

On top of making the loan deals of Cristian Romero and Dejan Kulusevski permanent, Tottenham have signed the highly experienced Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan. And Tottenham are reportedly working on a deal to sign Alessandro Bastoni from Conte’s former side too.

Tottenham may have climbed back into the Champions League, but Conte is a winner, and the Italian is clearly looking to build on their success last season. It’s an exciting time for Tottenham fans, after a huge dip in form since reaching the Champions League final in 2019.
