Sadio Mane’s pending transfer from Liverpool to Bayern Munich has been branded “crazy” by a former teammate as the Reds turned down the chance to bring in three midfielders
Liverpool passed on the opportunity to bring in Youri Tielemans, Kalvin Phillips and Yves Bissouma this summer over fears the moves would wreak havoc on their wage structure.
The Reds were linked with a move for Aurelien Tchouameni earlier in the summer before the Frenchman completed his move to Real Madrid and Jurgen Klopp had reportedly been keen to bring in a new midfielder. But after missing out on the former AS Monaco man, Liverpool now appear set to bide their time to recruit new options in the middle of the park ahead of a potential move for Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham next year.
It comes as Sadio Mane’s impending transfer to Bayern Munich has been called “crazy” be ex-Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius. And Raheem Sterling is out to prove he’s learned from his ‘disappointing’ Liverpool transfer fiasco.
Here are Mirror Football’s latest Liverpool headlines.
Reds reject three transfer options
Liverpool were reportedly “willing to pass up on” deals to sign Youri Tielemans, Kalvin Phillips and Yves Bissouma this summer despite considering them relatively “easy” to complete.
The Reds are said to have turned down those offers because they do not want to add new players who will start at the higher end of the wage structure. And the club’s hierarchy has agreed that no stopgaps will be brought in if game-changing acquisitions cannot be made.
And that could mean the club are holding out for a big bid for Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham next summer.
Mane move “crazy”
Sadio Mane’s transfer switch to Bayern Munich has been branded “crazy” by former Liverpool teammate Loris Karius.
The forward is set to seal his move to the Bundesliga champions this week in a £35.1million move with the Senegal international in Germany to finalise his switch. The Reds decided to sell up after failing to agree a new contract with Mane, who had just one year left on his deal at Anfield.
And Karius says the move will be “crazy” for Bayern as they have secured one of the “top players” at Liverpool.
Sterling’s Reds transfer fiasco
Raheem Sterling is determined to handle his Manchester City departure better than he did when leaving Liverpool.
The forward could be set to leave City this summer with Premier League rivals Chelsea reportedly interested in acquiring his services. But Sterling has previously opened up on how he was “disappointed” with how the move unfolded.
And Chelsea could be the big winners from that lesson as Sterling eyes a move to London.
