New Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is ready to let Dean Henderson leave as he may be preparing to deploy a new tactical set-up in midfield if Frenkie de Jong arrives
New Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has shown his ruthlessness already by making a swift decision on a problem that plagued former Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Dutchman takes the helm at Old Trafford with the club expected to undergo a major squad overhaul in the summer transfer window. While plenty of new arrivals are expected, several players are also expected to depart and Ten Hag has already made a decision on the future of Dean Henderson despite previous hopes he would be able to displace David de Gea as the club’s first-choice stopper.
It comes as Ten Hag’s Frenkie de Jong plan has been revealed – and it may just play to Donny van de Beek’s strengths. And United have been told to pay Vitinha’s release clause or forget about signing the FC Porto midfielder this summer.
Ten Hag shows ruthlessness
Erik ten Hag has shown his ruthlessness already after making a swift decision on the future of goalkeeper Dean Henderson.
The Englishman looks set to leave the club this summer despite managing to become first-choice between the sticks for a brief period under former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. That spell left Solskjaer unsure what to do with the shotstopper despite David de Gea reclaiming his place in the starting XI, but new boss Ten Hag has made a move very early into his time at Old Trafford.
Henderson will now reportedly be allowed to leave the club on loan with newly promoted Nottingham Forest said to be interested in signing him as Ten Hag begins to shape his squad ahead of next season.
De Jong plan emerges
Erik ten Hag’s midfield plan for Frenkie de Jong may just help Donny van de Beek revive his career at Manchester United.
While De Jong has so far insisted he is happy at his current club Barcelona, United still expect to sign the midfielder before the Premier League season kicks off. The Dutchman is seen as a priority signing for Ten Hag with the pair having reached the Champions League semi-finals together with Ajax in 2019.
The United boss has already spoken about his best role being within a double-pivot, and that could play to former teammate Donny van de Beek’s strenghts.
United sent Vitinha warning
FC Porto midfielder Vitinha has emerged as a potential alternative to Frenkie de Jong in recent days, but his club have sent a warning to any clubs planning to bid for him.
But now his club’s president, Pinto da Costa, has confirmed that any interested parties will have to submit bids that meet the midfielder’s release clause, estimated to be worth £35m, in order for them to sell. United may already have competition for his signature, with Da Costa also revealing a bid has already been made for the player.
But the offer has not been accepted and interested clubs will have to meet the release clause, he added.
